Wealth management services

In CPA wealth management at Dimov Tax, our CPAs check the tax cost before each trade.

We start our wealth management services with one view of everything you own: an old 401(k), a brokerage account, an IRA and bank cash. A wealth management advisor then sets one investment plan across those accounts.

Our investment management services

  • Asset mix

We set the allocation between stocks, bonds and cash by your goals and timeline.

  • Rebalancing

We list each buy and sell to return your holdings to their overall allocation.

  • Cash buffer

We size a cash reserve for planned spending, so you avoid selling low.

  • Risk check

We run a portfolio stress test to show what you would lose in a long decline.

  • Fund costs

We compare fund expenses and name cheaper funds once our CPAs work out the tax.

How to reduce taxes on investments

Our CPAs act as your investment tax advisor.

  • Asset location. We pick the account where the IRS taxes each holding less.
  • Losses. We flag funds you hold at a loss. If you sell one, you deduct the loss from gains and up to $3,000 of ordinary income a year, or $1,500 if married filing separately.
  • Wash sale rule. The IRS disallows that loss if you buy the same fund, or one the IRS treats as substantially identical, 30 days before or after the sale.
Taxable brokerage account

Stock funds to hold more than a year

IRS taxes gains at 0%, 15% or 20% after a year

Traditional 401(k) or IRA

Bonds and other holdings you earn interest on

IRS taxes withdrawals as ordinary income

Roth IRA

Growth funds you plan to hold for decades

IRS taxes no withdrawals after age 59½ once the Roth is five years old

3.8%

The IRS charges 3.8% on the lesser of your net investment income, such as interest, dividends and gains, or your modified adjusted gross income above $200,000 single or $250,000 joint.

How we deliver portfolio management services

  1. Share your accounts.

After the first call, send statements for each account and last year’s tax return.

  2. Read our findings.

We map fees, risk, tax cost and stocks you own through more than one fund.

  3. Approve the plan.

You sign off on the mix and the trades to reach it.

  4. Meet through the year.

We review results with you and adjust the plan.

A big mistake younger investors (since 2008) have is they haven’t gone through a long negative market and fully believe they cannot lose in investments and thus have too much risk.
