We check Jefferson County MO personal property tax bills, file assessment lists and handle late penalties and value appeals for households and businesses.
A senior CPA reviews your bill in confidence, with a reply in about two hours.
January 1. Ownership date for the whole year's bill; the county does not prorate.
December 31. Due date for the 2026 bill; it is delinquent on January 1, 2027.
2% a month. Penalty on a late bill, up to 18% for the year.
We match the vehicles, values and levy on your bill to the property you owned on January 1 and the county rate sheet.
We file your list with the Assessor by March 1, or late with the penalty worked out.
We prepare the equipment list your business files with the Assessor, from the fixed assets on your federal return.
We appeal a vehicle or equipment value that does not match your property.
We confirm the penalty and the Collector's fee on a late bill, so you can clear the account and renew your plates.
We prepare your Missouri and federal returns with the same team.

The county taxes cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, mobile homes, boats and motors, aircraft, livestock, farm machinery and business equipment. The County Assessor sets a market value from the Missouri State Tax Commission rate book and assesses a fixed share of it under RSMo 137.115.
For vehicles, the Assessor uses the trade-in value in the October issue of the guide the Commission selects. The Assessor cannot go above the average trade-in value without inspecting the vehicle.
| Property | Assessed share of market value |
|---|---|
| Vehicles, trailers, boats, equipment and other personal property | 33 1/3% |
| Mobile homes used as a home | 19% |
| Livestock, poultry and farm machinery | 12% |
| Historic vehicles and qualifying older aircraft | 5% |
If you sell a truck in March or move out of Missouri in June, you owe the full 2026 bill on it. Since 2025, the Assessor cannot assess a vehicle with a true value under $50,000 at more than its prior-year assessment, if that assessment was correct.
In the first week of January the Assessor mails an assessment list to everyone who reported personal property the year before.
You return it by March 1 showing everything you owned on January 1.
If you are new to the county or did not get a form, call the Assessor at 636-797-5343 to be added to the rolls.
The Assessor adds a penalty under RSMo 137.280 to the tax bill for a list filed after March 1. The penalty is $15 on up to $1,000 of assessed value, rising $10 for each further $1,000, to $105 on more than $9,000.
The Assessor drops the penalty for a list postmarked on time, for military service outside the state, or when the county did not mail the form.
Illustrative: 2025 county, state, city, special road, fire, R-3 school and Jefferson College levies from the county rate sheet. The county charges no library district levy on R-3 addresses. We leave out the ambulance district levy, because the county charges a different one by address, from 0.1181 to 0.5698 on the 2025 sheet. The county applies a different city, school and fire levy to the same two vehicles inside Arnold's city limits.
