Hi,

For most businesses, the 2026 fiscal year closes on December 31 – about 9 weeks from now. If your fiscal year ends on a different date – such as March 31, June 30, September 30 or any other date – everything below still applies, just counted from your own year-end.

If you’ll need audited financials, there are a few small things you can do before year-end that make the audit smoother and faster once we start, whenever you’re ready to begin.

Here’s what helps most before your fiscal year closes:

  • Keep your bookkeeping current – reconcile bank and credit card accounts month by month
  • Save key documents in one place – loan agreements, major contracts, leases, and large purchase invoices
  • If you carry inventory, plan a count on the last day of your fiscal year – let us know and we’ll tell you exactly what to record
  • Note any big changes this year – new entities, new loans, ownership changes, or large equipment purchases

It also helps to know your deadline. Most requests are counted from the end of your fiscal year:

  • Lenders and investors: audited statements are typically due 90 to 120 days after year-end – for a December 31 year-end, that’s March 31 – April 30, 2027
  • Franchise disclosure documents: updates are due within 120 days of year-end – April 30, 2027 for a December 31 year-end
  • Business tax returns: generally due on the 15th day of the 3rd or 4th month after year-end, depending on your entity type – March 15 or April 15, 2027 for a December 31 year-end (unless extended)

The good news is that you don’t have to coordinate any of this yourself. Our team works with businesses of every size on tight audit timelines, and we connect each step so your numbers flow from one to the next:

  • Year-end bookkeeping and cleanup, reconciled into GAAP or IFRS format
  • Audit of your financial statements, with a signed report ready for your bank, investors, buyer, or regulator
  • Business and personal tax returns prepared directly from the audited numbers
  • Tax planning before year-end, so there are no surprises in April

The bookkeeping and the audit are performed by separate, independent entities to ensure independence.

Reply to this email by next Wednesday and we’ll set up a free 15-minute call with our audit team to answer your questions and walk through your 2026 audit. If you have a loan agreement, last year’s audit report, or a request from an investor, buyer, or regulator, bring it along so we can confirm your deadline.
